Who would have ever thought that Guidos would be in Rhode Island, Connecticut, and even now new breeds in Miami and Detroit. By new breeds I mean, non-Italian races attempting to become Guidos. These include Middle Eastern Guidos and Cuban Guidos. How can this be explained?
Looking back on the last couple of decades you can see that slicked back hair and unbuttoned shirts with gold chains did exist in other places outside of New York, specifically in Middle Eastern and Hispanic cultures. Only until recently are these cultures associated with Guidos. The word itself "Guido" has moved from a derogitory word to one of coolness, or even endearment. We can blame the media for fueling the growth of Guido culture, which now makes people associate anyone with traditional Eye-talian Guido stereotypes as being a Guido.
So next time you're in Cuba or Armenia, take a second to realize the parallels between true Guidos and the want-to-bes.
